Caffeine Extraction Workshop

20 November 2013, Bristol, United Kingdom

Introduction
This is a ChemNet event for students aged 14-18 years.
According to the UK Tea Council around 165 million cups of tea are consumed per day in the UK! That's a lot of caffeine! But how much caffeine does your average cuppa really contain? In this exciting practical workshop you will be using state of the art equipment to extract caffeine from tea leaves at the award-winning Bristol ChemLabS. You will have the chance to use solvents and equipment not normally used at GCSE under the expert guidance of postgraduate chemists. The practical work takes place from 10.15 – 12.40 with a 15 minute break for refreshments (cups of tea being an optional extra!). There should be one teacher per group of up to 15 students.
