On European Antibiotics Awareness Day your 6th form students are invited to the Chemistry Centre where Nicholas Brown shall introduce antibiotics, how they have become an essential part of our lives and the role that they play in every aspect of modern healthcare.
The discovery and exploitation of the penicillin group of antibiotics provides a good example of how bacteria can become resistant to these agents, and how chemical modification has been used to generate new compounds to overcome these resistance mechanisms. But have we now got to the end of the line?
After this talk you will join comedian and songstress of science, Helen Arney as she hosts this live version of I'm a Scientist, Get me out of here! This is a fantastic opportunity to delve into the world of drugs, bugs, and infections. Students will engage with five researchers and discuss and debate how their work is helping in the fight against infections.
