A refurbished °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼ Blue plaque commemorating the work of John Dalton, formerly sited in central Manchester, is to be presented by past president Prof. David Philips to Dr Diana Leitch of the Manchester Literary and Philosophical Society. This august organization was presided over by Dalton in the past, and much of his published work is to be found amongst its papers. This plaque will reside in the Lit and Phil's new quarters in New Church House, Deansgate. Additionally, a new plaque is to be prominently sited on John Dalton street in Manchester, so that everyone walking along that busy thoroughfare can know something of the achievements of the man it is named for. It will be sited on the Ape and Apple public house. Consequently, the plaque will be awarded to a senior representative of Joseph Holt, the brewers. That company has familial links with Cumbria, the home of Dalton, and the first commercial source of Graphite. The Event precedes the award of the latest Dalton Medal by the Lit and Phil to Prof Kostya Novoselov, who will give his lecture 'The history of sp2 carbon in England' to an assembed audience of Lit and Phil members and invited guests.
