Amazing Chemistry Applied Daily

29 September 2011, United Kingdom

Introduction
This half day event to celebrate the International Year of Chemistry aims to introduce you to the science involved in the development of modern cosmetics and in the evaluation of their performance. Held at Imperial College London, Dr Emma Meredith from the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Perfumery Association will talk about how chemistry helps scientists to create amazing cosmetic products. A team from the Cosmetic Science area of London College of Fashion will explain how cosmetics are made, where cosmetic ingredients come from and what roles they play in various products. You will also get an idea of how scientists assess the effects of cosmetics before putting them on the market. You will smell perfumes, touch natural and synthetics oils, and see demonstrations of skin testing equipment.
