Careers in space (Year 10 students)

16 June 2014, Leicester, United Kingdom

Introduction
The UK Space Industry has an annual turnover of £9.1bn and employs close to 29,000 people. It is a very healthy sector with projected growth to £14bn by 2020. In order to meet this growth target the industry needs young people to choose science (including Chemistry!) and engineering options and decide to work in this area. The variety of jobs available within the space industry is vast and many companies work on international projects highlighting the importance of collaboration.
This event will include opportunities to speak to people working within the Space industry. The roles of chemists includes development of rocket fuels, analysis of data collected by mass spectroscopy and X-Ray crystallography and development of materials for space suits and shuttles amongst other things.
