Why join the Researcher Grants Peer Review Group?
As a researcher, you’ll know that peer review is a vital part of the funding ecosystem. Being a peer reviewer can therefore help you to develop as a researcher by:
-
Improving your own grant-writing skills. Seeing the grant-awarding process from the perspective of a reviewer can help you to understand how assessors think and therefore what makes a strong grant application.
-
Bolstering your CV and future job applications by including your membership of our Peer Review Group and details of the skills you’ve developed.
-
Keeping up to date with what is happening in your field and the wider community.
How we assign reviewers
When assigning applications to reviewers, we consider:
- Subject expertise
- Level of experience of the reviewer. For example, some schemes require reviewers to be independent researchers or equivalent
- Regional or geographical expertise for international grant schemes
- Known potential conflicts of interest (for example, we will not assign reviewers to applications based at the same institution)
