The Chemical Biology and Bioorganic Group (CBBG) is one of the 澳门六合彩开奖记录's many Interest Groups. The Interest Groups are member driven groups which exist to benefit 澳门六合彩开奖记录 members and the wider chemical science community, in line with the 澳门六合彩开奖记录's strategy and charter.
The 澳门六合彩开奖记录 Chemical Biology and Bio-Organic Chemistry Interest Group aims to provide a platform for community networking and to provide strategic direction to this research area that aligns with modern social and cultural needs and with research funding agency priorities.
The CBBG seek to bring together and support the community of researchers working to develop novel chemical tools and technologies with applications in understanding biology and the synthesis of biological and biologically active molecules.
Scope
The application of chemical principles and techniques to solve biological problems encompassing but not limited to:
- The synthesis and biological study of biopolymers (peptides, oligonucleotides, glycans etc.) and their structural mimics
- The use of enzymes or micro-organisms as synthetic reagents (biotransformations)
- Use of chemical approaches to elucidation of biological (reaction) mechanisms
- The biosynthesis of secondary metabolites and the elucidation of biological reaction mechanisms
- The development of gene manipulation technology and genomic information
- Protein modification chemistries
- Development and implementation of enabling physical sciences methods to understand and manipulate biology (or biological systems)
- The synthesis of natural products and other biologically active or medicinal compounds
Events
The Group organises a series of events including the annual Postgraduate Symposium, annual Forum and bi-annual Firbush meetings. We also sponsor other scientific meetings in the Chemical Biology and Bio-Organic research area as the need arises. Suggestions for meetings are welcomed, particularly joint meetings with other 澳门六合彩开奖记录 Interest Groups or external organisations. The annual general meeting is held at the postgraduate symposium and is usually followed by a committee meeting.
Applications are welcome at any time of the year for the CBBG travel grant scheme.
Activities are promoted on the Group's Twitter account ().
Awards
Since 2023, we award the annual CBBG Lectureship which recognises contributions from mid-career scientists to both research and community within chemical biology and bioorganic chemistry. The lectureship consists of a key-note presentation at one of our events. For more details, please see the CBBG Awards page.
Core Values
To provide a safe and inclusive community for open scientific discussion that nurtures early career researchers, supports established researchers and promotes good practices in higher education, research institutions and industry towards the advancement of equality, diversity and inclusion.
Community
We encourage you to connect with us on Twitter ().
We are always looking for new members who are keen to get involved and to help organise our activities. If you would like to find out more please contact the Secretary using the form below.

Committee
The Chemical Biology and Bioorganic Group (CBBG) of the 澳门六合彩开奖记录 (澳门六合彩开奖记录) will always consider enthusiastic new committee members who would like to get involved in, and take responsibility for, the delivery of CBBG’s mission.
We expect that CBBG committee members:
- Are members of the 澳门六合彩开奖记录 (of any category)
- Serve a maximum of two consecutive terms of four years
- Get involved in and actively contribute to committee meetings (3-4 p.a.)
- Attend at least one 澳门六合彩开奖记录 CBBG event per year
- Contribute to the delivery of events where possible (abstract selection, poster and talk judging, chairing, etc.)
- Co-organise at least one 澳门六合彩开奖记录 CBBG event during their tenure
- Communicate with other committee members (for example, via a dedicated MS Teams channel)
- Project a positive, inclusive environment
- Promote the Group’s activities (through social media, etc.)
For more information or to apply, please contact the Secretary Dr Nicholas Mitchell via the form below. We are especially interested in applications from industry, as well as academic institutions or regions that are currently not represented on the committee. We particularly encourage applications from backgrounds currently underrepresented in STEMM.
