This is an annual event organised by the School of Chemistry at the University of Southampton in collaboration with the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼ Mid-Southern Counties Local Section and the Wessex Group of 6th Form Colleges. The aim is to give Post-16 teachers in the region the opportunity to take a day out of school/college to spend time with colleagues from elsewhere and share good practice. Each year the programme is designed with input from teachers in local 6th form colleges affiliated to the Wessex Group (www.wessexsfc.ac.uk). Following a successful online event in 2020, which was 'attended' by ~100 participants, we are proceeding with another online event for 2021. Chemistry teachers from any school or college in the UK and beyond are welcome to join the conference.
At this early stage, the detailed programme for the event is in the planning. However, a list of confirmed contributors is listed below. If you would like to contribute yourself, please contact David Read (d.read@soton.ac.uk) to discuss your ideas.
The event is being organised by David Read and Claire Costello-Kelly (King Edward VI School, Southampton). Please register your place as soon as possible to assist with planning. If more than one colleague from your school or college would like to attend, that is not a problem.
The event will run in Zoom, hosted by Kate Whetter, °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼ South West Education Coordinator. Details of how to join will be sent to participants nearer the time. Note that the event will be recorded, and the recordings shared with all registered participants. In order to access the recordings, please register even if you will not be able to 'attend' on the day - you can select this option when you complete the registration process.
Confirmed contributors to the programme include:
Claire Costello-Kelly, King Edward VI School, Southampton
Ollie Hunter, Benenden School and the University of Cambridge
Nick Jarvis, Poole High School
Nicola Kiernan, The Edinburgh Academy and University of Edinburgh
David Paterson, Elstree School and CLEAPSS
Dr Kristy Turner, Bolton School and the University of Manchester
There will also be speakers from the School of Chemistry at Southampton and Ilika PLC, one of our spinout companies, who will be sharing exciting stories about their research that are relevant to the A level and GCSE curriculum.
