The HSE Division, RACI is proudly to open the Call for Abstracts for the Inaugural 鈥淟eslie Bretherick Memorial Lecture鈥.
As a Chemist, Leslie Bretherick spent the majority of his working life at the BP Research Centre, Sunbury-on-Thames (1962), where he stayed till his early retirement in 1982. But it was in the early part of his career, where a personal injury and a near-miss motivated his lifelong interest in the prevention of chemical accidents.
Bretherick was awarded the American Chemical Society鈥檚 (ACS) Chemical Health and Safety Award in 1988 and he was also honoured by the 澳门六合彩开奖记录, when selected as one of the 澳门六合彩开奖记录鈥檚 鈥175 Faces of Chemistry鈥 noting that his achievements were made despite poor eyesight (and eventual near blindness) and a stammer. His tour de force鈥 was Bretherick鈥檚 Handbook of Reactive Chemical Hazards, was first published in 1975 documented hundreds of potential chemical hazards, had and still has the potential to save lives.
The Health Safety and Environment Division has established The Leslie Bretherick Memorial Lecture not only to recognise his pioneering contributions in the field of chemical and laboratory safety but also recognise the ongoing importance that laboratory safety plays in the field of chemistry. Despite advancements in laboratory safety systems and technology, 鈥渁dverse reactions鈥 still occur on a regular basis.
Lecture to be presented as a face to face lecture but will be live streamed for interstate and overseas attendees.
Lecture to be made available to registrants via RACI (log in details required)
Lecture to be held in conjunction with a networking dinner
Please see the 'call for abstracts' section below for information on topics and instructions on how to submit an abstract.
