Next steps for offshore wind energy: regulation, innovation and the sector deal

12 July 2018 09:00, London, United Kingdom

Introduction
Following the latest Contracts for Difference auction allocations, sessions will assess the opportunities created by the reduced generation costs for offshore wind, as well as how best to encourage innovation and attract investment in the sector.
Delegates will also consider the challenges for meeting the targets set out in the Clean Growth Strategy for development of the sector in the UK, and the Government’s plan for a transformative Sector Deal by the middle of 2018 - looking at what might be needed to help reduce costs, increase productivity, and support local communities and economies.
Planned sessions will examine the potential to trade offshore wind electricity internationally, with the sector in the UK taking the lead for more than half of the new offshore wind power capacity being developed in Europe. Those attending will assess the obstacles facing the industry as wind farms are forced to move increasingly further out to sea - including issues around planning and engineering - and the costs incurred in doing so.
