From Pests to Pigments to Plastic

11 November 2014, London, United Kingdom

Introduction
From pests to pigments to plastics, chemistry is at work in the conservation labs of all the world's museums. This event will demonstrate how chemistry is applied in the conservation and preservation of objects in the Victoria and Albert Museum.
Plastics: Where are they found in our collections? How do they degrade? What are the different properties of plastic materials? Does one plastic smell differently to another? How many plastics are used in the manufacture of an iPhone?
Pests: What is eating our objects? help with hands on bug and pest identification. Pigments: What is used to make pigments and dyes? How we measure colour?
